A Unique Send Off

Quite often we come across people who don't know how they would like the finer details of their funeral to be.

After a father lost his brave fight against illness his son wanted to give his father a send off he would have loved, and was memorable.

James Murphy came up with the unique funeral for his dad Brendan, who had worked in construction and as a plant operator for regional construction firm Bethell Construction for more than 15 years before his death at the age of 53 last month.

James drove his dad’s coffin to the cemetery strapped in the front bucket of a JCB from a funeral service held at St Bernadette’s Church in Whitefield, Greater Manchester to Bury Cemetery.

This however isn't the first time a coffin has been driven to a funeral in a front bucket of a JCB.

Nearly 7 years ago JCB digger driver Melvin Baker had his dying wish came true when he made his final journey in a JCB. The Cinderford great granddad, 79, repeatedly told friends and family that he wanted to be taken to his final resting place by his favourite form of transport. His former boss, builder Keith Bell, arranged for a JCB to lead the funeral procession from the family home to St Stephen's Church and then on to Yew Tree Brake crematorium. Rev Pat Allen led the procession for the final part of the journey. Jean, Melvin's wife said: "It was the one thing he said he wanted for his funeral. It was perfect, exactly what he wanted."

There have been many other unique funeral requests over the years
